FORSCOT WITHDRAWS FROM WOOD FIBRE STUDY
Forscot, the company planning to build an integrated pulp and paper mill, and renewable energy plant, at Invergordon in north-east Scotland, has withdrawn all involvement from the wood fibre study commissioned by Scottish wood processors and woodland management companies.
Ed Gillespie, chairman of Forscot said: ‘At the January meeting of the study’s steering group, it was agreed not to release any information until the updated timber output forecast figures for the Forestry Commission and private sector were available.
‘However, Norbord, a member of the steering group, subsequently issued a public statement about future timber supply and demand, which was based on speculation.
‘These actions led us to conclude that the group will not be prepared to view any independent data without bias and is only acting in self-interest, rather than for the good of the Scottish forest industry as a whole.
‘Forscot will, however, welcome any independent research that will bring clarity to the timber supply and demand situation.’
